Photography

Winn Designs grew from Winn Photo, which I started in 2012 when my passion for photography and lighting was happily consuming entire days, weeks and months. I poured myself into the art, attending classes, meetups, watching hours and hours of online video tutorials and practicing my skills as much as I possibly could.

Over the years, I've photographed just about everything: products, business locations and real estate, boudoir, senior photos, family sessions, weddings, engagements and more. Along the way, I discovered a particular love for using natural, ambient light to create flattering portraits.

Natural light comes with unique challenges, which suits my adaptable nature perfectly. It can change from one minute to the next, and I've always enjoyed responding to those changes, solving problems as they arise and finding the most flattering result.

Eventually, I found my way into photography instruction and regularly taught classes through my Meetup.com group. Teaching showed me how much I value making complex ideas approachable. I learned to work with different learning styles and make sure every student left with useful skills they could put into practice.

Today, my photography work focuses on professional headshots and natural light beauty portraits. Headshots were a natural choice because I enjoy helping people feel comfortable in front of the camera. Most people do not begin a session feeling completely at ease, so creating a relaxed experience is just as important to me as creating a polished image.

Web Design + Development

Today, I bring that same curiosity and practical, people-first approach to web design and web application development. The tools are different, but the goal is the same: understand what someone needs, make the process feel approachable and create something that serves them well.

A few years ago, I began a deliberate career change into web development, building on the problem-solving and visual skills I had developed through photography. Since then, I have become well versed in React, Next.js and Tailwind CSS for responsive front-end work, along with Supabase for databases, back-end services and authentication. I also work with WordPress for businesses and organizations that need a flexible site they can manage with confidence.

How I Work

Whether I am shaping a portrait, organizing a website or building a web application, I start by listening. Thoughtful work comes from asking the right questions, solving the right problem and making the final result feel clear, useful and genuinely connected to the person or organization behind it.
